Agile Product Owner - Untappd for Business

Untappd, the premiere social drinking app aimed at beer lovers, is looking for an experienced Agile Product Owner for our business facing products. This position will give you a unique opportunity to build products for the industry that serves the largest community of beer drinkers, breweries and bars in the world. This position is located in our Durham, NC or Wilmington, NC offices. 

The Agile Product Owner (PO)  leads the requirements efforts for an agile Scrum team to ensure that product and sprint goals are set and met. The PO serves as a liaison between our internal and external stakeholders and the scrum team, and is responsible for embodying each of these roles in order to define product and sprint backlogs in order to optimize the value delivered from the Scrum Team. This highly collaborative role will need to work closely with stakeholders, end users, and functional and technical team members to deliver quality features and solutions to provide value for our customers and internal teams.

Some of the PO Duties include:

  • Clearly expresses Product Backlog items – writes User Stories, defines clear acceptance criteria to support the scrum execution
  • Describes features, collaborates, and communicates with the delivery team, and accepts or rejects work results, and steers the project by tracking and forecasting its progress
  • Ensures that the Product Backlog is prioritized, visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the Scrum Team will work on next
  • Edits aggressively and understands that 20% of features implemented, provide 80% of the value from a product. Knows the importance of deciding what *NOT* to do.
  • Works with the team to relentlessly break down stories in to small, workable chunks for inclusion in to a sprint.
  • Work with software engineers and architects, as well as subject matter experts, to establish the technical direction, determine scope of work, identify and plan the pay down of tech debt, etc…
  • Work under the Scrum Master’s guidance in adhering to Scrum principles, understanding that quality is always more important than quantity, but does not negate the need to deliver value consistently.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • 2+ years professional experience as a Product Owner on a Software Scrum team.
  • Experience using Jira, PivotalTracker, or similar, to manage feature stories (We use Jira)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, strong ability to build and maintain trust among team, customers and stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of iterative development methodologies
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Energetic, motivated, and service-oriented.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Flexible to new situations and challenges.
  • Working knowledge of the Alcohol Industry from the perspectives of consumers, retailers, distributors, and enterprise is a huge plus.
